2024 AGM
Dear members,
With 2024 well underway now, the Committee has scheduled a date for the next AGM.
The next AGM will be held on 27 April 2024 and your attendance will be very much appreciated.
Please note that the 2024 AGM will include important votes concerning membership and fees. So, if you want your say in these matters, please make sure you keep the date free and attend in person.
If you are unable to attend the AGM, you can lodge a proxy vote with the Chairman (Tony Taylor) provided you confirm your vote to the Secretary (Wesley Groot) in writing (e-mail, WhatsApp, note left for my attention at reception, etc. as long as it identifies you as a member and clearly states your position on a voting topic), at least 2 days prior to the meeting, in accordance with clause 3.9 of the Club’s Byelaws.
The agenda for the meeting will be published in due course, at least 21 days before the meeting, and will be available here on the website and in paper copy at the club. At your request, we will be happy to make a copy of the agenda for you to take away.
The sign-up sheet for anybody who wishes to join the Committee will also be posted in due course, so if you would like to be part of the Committee, keep an eye on the notice boards and put your name down once the sheet is up!
2023 Competition Results
Dear members, the end of 2023 is upon us and the results of our club competitions are in! Please see below the results for the RAGC 10-metre pistol competition and the 50-metre rifle competition.
On behalf of the committee, I want to thank all of our members, staff included, for their continued support and effort to make our club the friendly and positive-spirited environment it is. It is truly a pleasure to come to the club during any of our sessions and I hope you all feel the same way.
I wish you all a very happy new year and hope to see you in person at the club again soon.
Please remember: The club is not open tomorrow, the 31st of December. We will be back in action on Tuesday 2 January 2024 with the first 50-metre Inter-Club Competition of the year.
10-metre pistol competition
Congratulations to all competitors who managed to get a full roster of scores.
The winner of the RAGC 10m Club Competition, without surprising anyone, is Ivan Ivanov, well done Ivan! I know you feel you should do better, but you’re definitely doing better than the rest of us at least!
In second place we have Jon Pike, well done Jon!
And in third place, much to my own surprise and probably due to some others dropping out as well, Wes Groot.
50-metre Rifle Competition
The full results sheet for the 50-metre club competition is available on the 50-metre board. For this competition there was some discussion as to whether we drop the 2 or 3 lowest results. In the end, that discussion is largely irrelevant, as the image below will show. Whether we drop 2 or 3 results makes no difference to the top 5, but because dropping 3 scores was agreed, the right-hand column below is considered the official result.
In first place, for the second year running, Tony Kay. Well done Tony!
In second place we have Chris Turner, just falling short but he knows why and next year he will really be chasing that title!
In third place we have Jay, who might have won if he were able to pick a rifle and stick with it!
All three, I’m sure, will be in the race for the top again next year, with the first instalment of the 50-metre Internal Competition set to take place on Tuesday 9 January 2024 and this year counting 10 out of a maximum 12 scores again.
Members’ Day & Holiday Closures
Dear members,
Members’ Day is fast approaching! This Sunday, 10 December, from 10:00, all members are invited to join us for some delicious food, a good natter and a bit of shooting, free of charge as we thank you for another year of your support for our great club!
NON-MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE:
On Members’ Day the club is NOT open to non-members / visitors.
Also, please be aware that the club will be closed on THREE DAYS over the Christmas and New Year’s period. Notices will be posted up in the club as well.
The club will be CLOSED on:
Sunday 24 December (“Christmas Eve”)
Tuesday 26 December (“Boxing Day”)
Sunday 31 December (“Old Year’s Day”)
We will open as usual on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 27-30 December.
If not before then, we look forward to seeing you all again for the Inter-club 50-metre competition against Rivington Riflemen (or for your preferred shooting discipline in the 10-metre range or plinking range) on the 2nd of January.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas (or such other holidays as you observe this time of year) and a great start to 2024!
Best wishes,
Your Committee
Winter is coming
Hi all, just a quick word of warning. An ice patch has formed outside the club due to a combination of freezing temperatures and the neighbouring carwash and detailing business sending run-off water down the hill towards us.
Staff are trying to keep the area outside the door gritted, but the water will keep washing this away and then freezing over. So, be very careful crossing the car park. We would hate for anybody to get injured or damage their equipment on their way in!
Take care and stay safe! See you all soon!
Members’ Day 2023
First of all, apologies for the lack of activity on the website.
After a lengthy silence on the website, we are now ready to start making good use of this space again with regular updates and improvements.
For now, however, I am pleased to announce that, following the success of last year’s Members’ Day, we will be organising another one on Sunday 10th of December 2023.
On Members’ Day, all of our members are cordially invited to come down to the club for a shoot, a chat, a bite of food and even a little festive competition with a chance to win a year’s membership.
Members’ Day is completely free for all members, the club opens all day and remains open over lunch with a buffet of curries, pies, snacks and garnishes available from start to finish.
However, in order to ensure we get enough food for everyone but don’t waste the club’s resources, please try to let us know in advance if you intend to come down on the day, just so that we have a rough idea of numbers with regard to the amount of food we order in.
For this purpose, a sign-up sheet will be provided at reception as of some time in the next few days.
I will leave you with a small impression of the hard work some our members put in last year to help make the day an absolute success. And if you feel like there is something you would like to do or organise to help make this year’s Members’ Day even better than last year’s, please speak to a member of your committee about it!
See below, the plinking range, decorated with Christmas-theme targets by Neil and Dave.
We hope to see many of you at the club on Sunday 10 December 2023 (and of course many times between now and then!)
With deepest respect and condolences.
Club Closed on 24th June
It is with regret that the club will not be open this Friday (24th) due to lack of available cover. We felt it was important to notify people ASAP so other plans can be made. Efforts will be made to prevent closures in the future and we are now actively looking to recruit paid staff to help ensure a consistent pattern of opening times going forward. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
